Environment and Security in the Southern Mediterranean Region

The IES facilitated an OSCE workshop to explore and map existing and especially new environmental issues that may have an impact on security as well as environmental implications of security policies in a region undergoing major political changes; create wider understanding of the national, regional and international frameworks and mechanisms available for cooperation on environment and security issues in the region; and to put forward recommendations for increased national, regional and international action and solutions on environment and security issues including with regard to the role of the OSCE. » More information

SYMIN Project

Together with its partners GAF AG and DLR, the IES has been tasked by the European Space Agency to provide timely information to Afghanistan's Ministry of Mines about informal mining in some of its remotest regions.

The IES EnviroSecurity Assessments focusing on the Matavén forest - Colombia, the African Great Lakes region and Central Kalimantan - Indonesia are available on this site. Meanwhile, the IES is working on an EnviroSecurity Assessment for the Congo Basin and the Horn of Africa. Case study reports, legal analyses, recommendations, maps, posters and the latest news are available here. » ESPA Programme
